Tell the students that this is a relay, but against their own team.
Each team will use the balloons and the magnets to move the objects to the other side of the room.
As the teacher, you will time groups one at a time the fist time through.
Groups will discuss how they can get the objects to move faster.
Rules: a. You can’t use the balloon and the magnet on a single trip to the other side. b. You can’t use your hands to touch the object that is being transported to the other side. c. Each member of the team has to take a trip down to the other side.
Tell the students that this is a relay, but against their own team.
Conclusion:
- Discuss the strategies that the students used: What worked and what didn’t work? If there is time, offer them the process grid and ask them to think through and record their steps as they predicted how their materials worked and experimenting during the relay.
