TED Talk: \"Let's Prepare for Our New Climate\" by Vicki Arroyo

Introductory Activity (15 minutes):
- Ask students to share their reactions to the research and answers thus far.
- Encourage students to share their concerns, using the discussion as a way to guide them to take action.
- Show the TED Talk, \"Let’s Prepare for Our New Climate.\" Prompt students to listen specifically for ideas about actions they may want to take.
- After the video, have students share their thoughts and reactions.
- Students should select one action they believe others, as well as themselves, should take.
What action can we take to prepare for our new climate? (20 minutes):
- Give students the devices along with the Preparing for Our New Climate Resources sheet.
- Prompt students to spend a few minutes researching and synthesizing their past answers. Their goal is to develop a simple action a person can take to prepare for a new climate change, or mitigate the climate change itself, and two reasons why the person should take action.
Craft a Campaign (20 minutes):
- Distribute paper, pencils, colored pencils and markers.
- Students create 2-3 social media posts where they call people to complete an action and share the reasons.
- Walk around the room. As students are creating, prompt them to reflect on the design and messaging of social media posts that resonate with them. Students should draw upon their own knowledge to craft compelling posts.
Closing Activity (5 minutes):
- Students should post their creations around the room.
- Distribute Post-It notes to students. As they walk around the room, students should write down one aspect of the creation that would encourage them to take action and give one suggestion for improvement
- Students should review at least two posts.
