Read through and familiarize yourself with the entire activity.

Develop a list of grade-appropriate words for students to spell. Then, print the list, cut each word into individual word slips, and place it in an opaque container, such as a brown paper bag.

Consider how best to group the children based on their grade levels and the number of leaders available.

Tell students that today they will play a fun game that helps them practice spelling skills.
Arrange children in groups of 10-12, depending on the number of leaders available. Each group will need 1 leader.
Have students stand in a circle or other arrangement that enables them to take turns sequentially.
Play the game as follows:
- Select a word from the hat and read it aloud to the group.
- Ask the first child to say the first letter in the word. Then, moving clockwise around the circle, have the subsequent children say the following letters until the entire word is spelled.
- If a child says an incorrect letter, announce this and let the next child in the circle try to say the correct letter.
- If the next child says an incorrect letter, come on to the next person.
- Give the word slip to the child who completes the word.
Present the word goodbye for the final word of the day.
Lead a brief discussion of the activity.
