Ask students if they ever think about narrating their pets' daily lives. Ask what words their pets would use when they talk about their day.
Tell students that today, they will be narrating about animals or giving a voice to animals.
Play the opening segments of \"Wild Discovery Animals,\" with the sound on.
Play the same segments again, this time with the sound off, and narrate the segments from the perspective of the animal. Say these lines:
- (for the leopard and the camera lens) \"Hey, who are you? Are you a friend, or are you food? Let me get a closer look….Hmm, you aren't very tasty, but you're not friendly either.
- (for the lion) \"OK, where are you? I hear you buzzing around, but I don't see you. Oh, is that you? I don't like you. Go away! Really, go away right now!\"
- (for the leopard at the car) \"Really, I'm just a big pussy cat. Please take me home with you. I'll be good, really. I'll catch mice for you. Or wildebeests. Do you have any wildebeests you need me to get rid of? I'll just wait here until you open the door.\"
Explain to students that they will work in pairs to narrate a short video segment about animals. They could narrate from the point of view of the animals, as you had demonstrated. Or they could narrate from the point of view of the observer, and take a more serious approach.
Have students work in pairs. Consider pairing older students with younger students.
Share the video links that you reviewed earlier, or invite students to find videos of other animals of their choice.
Tell students that they do not need to narrate the entire video. They should choose segments that are about 30 seconds long, and 1 minute at the longest.
Have students agree on a video segment and then review it a few times as they discuss ideas for a narration. Tell students that if the segment shows 2 animals, partners could speak for each animal. If there is only 1 animal, then 1 partner could speak for the animal and the other could speak as an offscreen human narrator.
Have students write scripts and rehearse them. Encourage students to revise their scripts to better match the action in the video.
Reconvene the whole group and invite pairs to perform their narration to a video segment. If the group is large, consider working in smaller groups for presenting and watching.
Reconvene the whole group to discuss the activity. Invite students to comment on their favorite narrations and videos. You may wish to give out awards in such categories as most humorous narration, best animal voice, and most unusual interpretation of an animal.

Instead of preparing scripts and rehearsing their performance, invite students to improvise animal dialogue, perhaps after viewing the video only once.

For the performance, have students act out the animal scenes. Direct 1 or 2 students to act silently as animals while another student narrates their actions.
